Contradictions

  • This preparation should not be applied in the event of acute or chronic kidney failure, serious diet arranged by the doctor, serious disorders of the acid-base household (e.g. metabolic alkalosis, excessive blood-potassium values (hyperkalaemia)) and for urinary tract infections with urea-splitting bacteria.

    • in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation.

dosage

  • Always take this medicine exactly as described or exactly after the agreement made with your doctor. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • a) to dissolve and prevent the formation of the new formation of uric acid stones
    • The recommended dose is:
      • Daily 4 painted measuring spoons (= 10 g of granulate) in 3 individual gipts after meals.
      • In the morning and at noon, 1 painted measuring spoon and 2 painted measuring spoons after the meals in the evening.
    • The pH value of the fresh urine should be in the following pH area:
      • Uric acid stones: pH 6.2 - 6.8
      • For pH values below the specified area, the daily dose must be increased by half a painted measuring spoon in the evening. In the case of pH values above the specified area, the daily dose must be reduced by half a painted measuring spoon in the evening.
      • The right dose is found if the pH of the fresh urine is always within the specified area before taking the drug.
      • Regular control of the urine PH value is recommended for metaphylaxis of uric acid stones.
  • b) to prevent the new formation of calcium -containing kidney stones
    • The recommended dose is:
      • The daily dose is 2 - 3 painted measuring spoons (= 5 - 7.5 g granulate) and is to be taken as a unique evening dose. If the pH is too low, 3 - 4.5 painted measuring spoons (= 7.5 - 11.25 g granules) in 2 - 3 can be taken over the day after meals.
      • A pH value of 7.0 should be sought. The pH value should not fall below 6.2 and do not exceed 7.4.
      • The citrate and/or urine PH values should be checked regularly and the individual dose (see above) should be adjusted accordingly.

  • Duration of the application
    • The treating doctor decides on the duration of the intake. If the symptoms continue despite taking the preparation, the doctor should be consulted.
    • Please speak to your doctor or APotheker, if you have the impression that the effect of the drug is too strong or too weak.

  • If you have taken a larger amount than you should
    • An undesirable influence of metabolic physiological parameters is not to be expected even more than the recommended dosage with sufficient kidney function.
    • In the case of overdose, hyperkalaemia (potassium plasma level >5 mmol/l) can occur, especially with simultaneous acidification (acidosis) or restricted kidney function.
    • Any overdose can be recognized at any time by checking the urine PH area and corrected by dose reduction.
    • If necessary, medical advice must be obtained.

  • If you have any further questions about the application of the drug, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Taking

  • The granules are dissolved in a glass of water and drunk.
  • Measurement of the pH value in the urine:
    • Immediately before each intake, a test strip of an indicator paper is wetted with fresh urine. The color of the wet test strip is then compared with the color panel and the corresponding pH value is read under the matching color.
    • The pH value found in this way and the number of granules taken in each case must be entered in the control calendar. The control calendar must be brought with you to visit every doctor.

Patient information

  • Warnings and Precautions
    • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

      • Before the first application, the electrolytes are to be determined in the serum and check the kidney function. If you suspect renal-tubular acidose (RTA), the acid-base status must also be checked.
      • Especially in older patients, or in patients with restricted kidney function or at the same time therapy with some medicines against high blood pressure (e.g. aldosterone antagonists, angiotensin receptor antagonists, potassium-saving diuretics, ACE inhibitors) or against chronic pain (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and peripheral analgesics) If it is taken into account that the maximum recommended daily dose is 11.25 g of granules (4.5 painted measuring spoons). This corresponds to 1.86 g potassium and 1.09 g sodium, i.e. 47.5 mmol potassium and 47.5 mmol sodium. Through interaction with the drugs mentioned here, hyperkalaemia can occur.
      • The medicine should only be used with caution in patients with severe liver dysfunction.
    • Children and adolescents
