Field of use

• The medicine is a mineral preparation.
• The medicine is used
  • for the treatment of magnesium deficiency in need of therapy that do not require injection/infusion;
  • in the case of proven magnesium deficiency if it is the cause of disorders of muscle activity (neuromuscular disorders, calf cramps).

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be taken,
  • if you are allergic to magnesium aspartate hydrochloride or one of the other components of this medicine,
  • if you suffer from severe kidney dysfunction with excretion inhibition (glomerular filtration rate < 30 ml/min),
  • if you suffer from the lack of fluids of the body (exsiccosis).

dosage

• Always take this medicine exactly as described or follow your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The dosage depends on the extent of the magnesium deficiency and lies at the discretion of the doctor.
• As a medium daily dose, 0.185 mmol magnesium (4.5 mg) per kg body weight is recommended. In the case of chronic and severe acute magnesium deficiency states, the daily dose, if there are no contraindications, can be safely increased to 0.37 mmol magnesium (9 mg) per kg body weight until the lack of the defect.
• The recommended dosage is
  • Adult:
    • 1 to 2 times a day 1 effervescent tablet (corresponding to 182.3- 364.6 mg magnesium).
  • Application in children and adolescents
    • Young people aged 15 and over:
      • 1 to 2 times a day 1 effervescent tablet (corresponding to 182.3- 364.6 mg magnesium).
    • Children from 10-14 years:
      • 1 effervescent tablet 1 times a day (corresponding to 182.3 mg magnesium).
    • Children under 10 years:
      • The medicine should not be used.
• Kidney dysfunction
  • The medicine must not be taken by patients with severe kidney dysfunction.
  • It should be used in patients with light to moderate kidney dysfunction with caution. Ask your doctor in which dose and how long you should take this magnesium preparation. See also category "Patient notice".
• Liver dysfunction
  • Due to inadequate data, there are no special dosage recommendations for patients with limited liver function.

• Duration of the application:
  • The duration of the application depends on the extent of the magnesium deficiency and lies at the discretion of the doctor.

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should,
  • the specified side effects can occur increased.

• If you have forgotten the intake
  • Take not the double dose if you have forgotten the prior intake.

Taking

• Please dissolve the effervescent tablet in a glass of water, tea or fruit juice and completely drink the contents of the glass.
• The medicine should be taken before eating, since this improves the intake of the gastrointestinal canal into the bloodstream.

• Warnings and Precautions
  • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the preparation.
  • With slight to moderate restriction of kidney function, caution is required when using magnesium preparations. The therapy should be monitored closely by the doctor.
• Children and adolescents
  • Due to the high magnesium content, the preparation is not suitable for children under the age of 10 and should therefore not be used in this age group. Other forms of dosage with lower magnesium content are available for this age group.

• Wateriness and ability to operate machines
  • There are no special precautions required.

Pregnancy

• If you are pregnant or breastfeed, or if you suspect that you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this drug.
• The preparation can be used during pregnancy and lactation if the doctor considers this necessary.
• Experiences at more than 1000 pregnancy outputs do not indicate a malformation risk or effects of magnesium on male or female fertility.
• Breastfeeding
  • Magnesium showed no effect on breastfed newborns/children of treated mothers.

Miscellaneous

- As the kidney function is progressing, creatinine in the serum over 500mol/l (6 mg per 100 ml) must be expected with a reduced excretion of magnesium. The value in the serum usually does not increase over 1.3 mmol magnesium.
- 1 Effervescent tablet contains 12.5 mg aspartame (sweetener) as a source for phenylalanine (corresponding to 7 mg/dose) and can be harmful to patients with phenylketonuria (congenital metabolic disease).
- 1 Effervescent tablet contains 2.6 mmol (100 mg) potassium and 6 mmol (138 mg) sodium. This must be taken into account in patients with restricted kidney function as well as people under controlled potassium diet and/or sodium controlled diet.
