Field of use

• The medicine contains the active ingredient pantoprazole, which blocks a type of pump that produces stomach acid. As a result, the amount of acid in the stomach is reduced.
• It is used for the short-term treatment of reflux symptoms (e.g. heartburn, acid reflux) in adults. Reflux is the backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus, which can become painfully inflamed. This can cause symptoms such as a painful burning sensation in the chest area that goes up to the throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid reflux).
• Your symptoms of reflux and heartburn may be relieved after just one day of treatment with the medicine, but this medicine does not have to provide immediate relief. To relieve symptoms it may be necessary to take the tablets on 2 - 3 consecutive days
  to take.
• If you don't feel better or feel worse after 2 weeks, contact your doctor.

Contraindications

• The medicine must not be taken:
  • if you are allergic to pantoprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • if you are also taking a medicine that contains atazanavir (used to treat an HIV-infection).

dosage

• Always take this medicine exactly as described or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
• The recommended dose is one tablet daily. Do not exceed this recommended daily dose of 20 mg pantoprazole.
• Take this medicine for at least 2-3 consecutive days. Stop taking it when you are completely free of symptoms. Your symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn may be relieved after just one day of treatment with the medicine, but this medicine does not have to provide immediate relief.
• If you do not notice any improvement in symptoms after 2 weeks of continuous use of this medicine, contact your doctor.
• Do not take the product for more than 4 weeks without consulting your doctor. Take the tablet at the same time every day before a meal. Swallow the tablet whole with a little water. Do not bite or break the tablet.

• If you have taken more than you should
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have taken larger amounts than the recommended dosage. If possible, take the medicine and the instructions for use with you.

• If you forget to take it
  • Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose
  • Simply take your normal dose the next time you take it.

• If you have any further questions about using the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Intake

• Take the tablet at the same time every day before a meal. Swallow the tablet whole with a little water. Do not bite or break the tablet.

• Warnings and Precautions
  • Please talk to your doctor before taking the medicine:
    • if you have had treatment for heartburn or indigestion for 4 weeks or longer.
    • if you are over 55 years old and treat indigestion with non-prescription medicines every day.
    • if you are over 55 years old and have new or recently changed reflux symptoms.
    • if you have had a stomach ulcer or stomach surgery in the past.
    • if you have liver problems or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
    • if you regularly visit your doctor because of severe symptoms or serious illnesses.
    • if you are scheduled to have an endoscopy or a breathing test called a 13C-urea breath test.
  • Tell your doctor immediately, before or after taking this medicine, if you notice any of the following symptoms, which could be a sign of another, more serious condition:
    • unintentional weight loss (not due to a diet or exercise program)
    • Vomiting, especially with repeated vomiting
    • Vomiting blood; this may look like dark coffee grounds in vomit
    • Blood in the stool, which may appear black or tarry
    • Difficulty swallowing or pain when swallowing
    • Paleness and feeling weak (anemia)
    • Chest pain
    • Stomach pain
    • severe and/or persistent diarrhoea, as this medicine has been associated with a slight increase in infectious diarrhoea.
  • Your doctor may order some tests.
  • Before a scheduled blood test, tell your doctor that you are taking this medicine.
  • After just one day of treatment with the medicine, your symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn may be relieved, but this medicine does not have to provide immediate relief. You should not take it as a preventive measure. If you suffer from recurrent heartburn or indigestion over a long period of time, remember to see your doctor regularly.
  • Children and young people
    • The medicine should not be taken by children and adolescents under 18 years of age as there is a lack of safety information for this younger age group.

• Ability to drive and use machines
  • If side effects such as dizziness or blurred vision occur, you should not drive or operate machines.

Pregnancy

• You should not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
