The trace element selenium acts as a cofactor for various selenoproteins and is involved in a large number of metabolic reactions. As a component of the active center of selenoproteins is selenium Among other things, it is necessary for the function of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase6. Selenium sits in the central position of the enzyme molecule and plays a central role in the elimination of cell-damaging compounds.
